Mr. Dean Davison is retiring after nine years as the assistant band director at LHS. The LHS band members all agree that the director has gone above and beyond the call of duty. From helping the LHS musical pit band to helping each and every one of the regional and state ensembles and solos, he has surpassed the title “assistant”.

“I very much enjoy what I do. My wife retired and she and I love to travel together so we will while we can!” Davison said.

With the help of Mr. Davison, regional and state soloists in the past nine years have exponentially improved as well as the band as a whole.

“The quality of the band program and growth of it has really improved in the past nine years with the help of Mr. Davison,” John Cisetti, band director, said.

During the musical pit band, Mr. Davison took the initiative to help them even though he was anticipating a trip to China. Davison also helped out and played with the LHS pit band for the 2010-2011 school year.

“Thanks Mr. Davison for being amazing! You always seem to be in the best moments, right when we need your help,” Amanda Zimmer, sophomore, said.

On May 3, Mr. Cisetti presented Mr. Davison with a baton holder, a children’s book, and a picture of him conducting. The baton holder read “Dean Davison, Band Director Emeritus”. The children’s book was about a child who wanted to play all instruments, so he became a director; it was then signed by all Jazzy Cats and the band. The final thing presented to him was a framed picture of him conducting, signed by the band and Jazzy Cats in the margin.

“We really hope that you have lots of fun on your trips!” Zimmer said.
